World Bamboo Organization Launches "World Bamboo Science" and Introduces Dr. Také, an AI-Assisted Bamboo Science Expert
June 21, 2026
New platform provides free access to evidence-based bamboo knowledge, connecting users with curated scientific research and industry expertise from around the world

The World Bamboo Organization (WBO) is pleased to announce the launch of World Bamboo Science, a new initiative designed to improve access to reliable, science-based information about bamboo. At the center of the platform is Dr. Také, an AI-assisted Bamboo Science Expert developed to help researchers, practitioners, businesses, policymakers, students, and bamboo enthusiasts navigate the rapidly expanding body of bamboo knowledge.
As interest in bamboo continues to grow worldwide, so does the challenge of identifying trustworthy information. While artificial intelligence tools have become widely available, users often struggle to verify the accuracy of responses, particularly in specialized fields such as bamboo science, forestry, construction, bioeconomy, and climate solutions.
World Bamboo Science was created to address this challenge by combining artificial intelligence with curated scientific databases and expert guidance from members of the global bamboo community.

A New Gateway to Bamboo Knowledge
Dr. Také has been trained using thousands of curated scientific publications, technical documents, industry resources, and research materials spanning environmental, technical, and social sciences related to bamboo.
The initiative was partially funded by the Asian Development Bank, with technology and AI infrastructure developed by QuantumG and scientific guidance provided by experts associated with the World Bamboo Organization.
The platform enables users to explore evidence-based information across multiple disciplines, including:
Bamboo biology and fundamentals
Plantation management and forestry
Bamboo nutrition and fertilization
Construction and preservation
Carbon sequestration and climate adaptation
Bioeconomy and bioenergy
Emerging technologies and innovation
By grounding responses in validated sources, the project seeks to support informed decision-making while helping address misinformation, unsupported claims, and skepticism surrounding bamboo applications.
Built on Specialized Scientific Databases
The current prototype is supported by several operational scientific databases, including:
Nutrition Database
A collection of research documenting nutrient requirements, fertilization strategies, nutrient uptake rates, and growth responses from plantation trials conducted across bamboo species and geographic regions.
Construction and Preservation Database
A specialized repository focused on bamboo treatment methods, preservation technologies, durability testing, and long-term performance under different environmental conditions.
Plantation Management Database
A focused database dedicated to tissue culture and propagation research, with particular emphasis on tropical bamboo species such as Dendrocalamus asper.
Carbon Sequestration Database
A growing collection of empirical data examining bamboo's carbon storage potential and its role in climate change mitigation strategies.
Additional knowledge sectors will continue to be incorporated as the platform evolves and expands.
Community Feedback Will Help Shape the Future
World Bamboo Science has been launched as an open prototype available free of charge to all registered users. The development team encourages users to actively engage with Dr. Také by asking questions, evaluating responses, and providing feedback through integrated rating tools and user surveys.
This feedback will play an important role in refining the system, identifying knowledge gaps, and improving the quality of future responses.
The project reflects the World Bamboo Organization's commitment to advancing scientific literacy, promoting evidence-based decision-making, and strengthening global access to bamboo knowledge.
