The World Bamboo Organization (WBO) is honored to announce its membership in the Environmental Chamber of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), joining a diverse international community committed to advancing responsible forest stewardship through collaboration, dialogue, and shared expertise.
This milestone reflects a shared commitment to promoting sustainable natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and responsible value chains that benefit both people and the planet.

For more than two decades, the World Bamboo Organization has worked to advance the sustainable use of bamboo as a renewable resource for environmental protection, economic opportunity, and social well-being.
As a member of the FSC® Environmental Chamber, WBO looks forward to contributing its global experience in bamboo while learning from and collaborating with fellow members representing environmental, social, Indigenous Peoples, and economic interests from around the world.
The organization believes that stronger cooperation between the bamboo and forestry communities can help accelerate innovative solutions for ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation, circular bioeconomy, sustainable construction, and resilient rural livelihoods.
"Joining the Forest Stewardship Council Environmental Chamber represents an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration across sectors working toward a more sustainable future. Bamboo has an important role to play in supporting healthy landscapes, biodiversity conservation, and resilient communities, and we are honored to contribute our experience while learning from the remarkable expertise of fellow FSC members around the world."
Chief Executive Officer
World Bamboo Organization
The Forest Stewardship Council® brings together environmental, social, and economic perspectives through a unique multi-stakeholder governance model that supports responsible forest stewardship worldwide. WBO is proud to contribute the perspective of the global bamboo community within this collaborative framework.
This vision is well reflected in the words of World Bamboo Organization Ambassador Peggy Stern, who reminds us that "FSC is not an end in itself, but a tool to help keep forests standing." That perspective resonates strongly with WBO's commitment to promoting bamboo as part of integrated landscape solutions that complement responsible forest stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.
As bamboo continues to gain recognition as a strategic renewable resource for climate action and sustainable development, WBO believes that closer collaboration with organizations across the forestry sector will help foster knowledge exchange, encourage innovation, and support integrated landscape approaches that recognize the complementary roles of forests and bamboo.
The World Bamboo Organization extends its sincere appreciation to the Forest Stewardship Council® and its members for the opportunity to participate in the Environmental Chamber and looks forward to building meaningful partnerships that advance responsible stewardship of natural resources for current and future generations.
