Mujer y Bambú: Women from 13 Countries and Territories Unite in Guatemala to Build a More Sustainable Future
October 16, 2026
An international gathering celebrating women's leadership, sustainable bamboo architecture, and community collaboration.

PUNTA BRAVA, GUATEMALA — From September 6–12, 2026, Mujer y Bambú brought together women from Latin America and Europe in Punta Brava, Guatemala, for an international gathering dedicated to sustainable bamboo construction, knowledge exchange, and community collaboration.
Participants from Guatemala, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Poland, and Germany came together to share experiences, strengthen professional connections, and explore the potential of bamboo as a tool for sustainable development and collective action.

Founded in 2023, Mujer y Bambú was created to celebrate women's contributions to the bamboo sector and foster an international network built on collaboration, shared knowledge, and mutual learning.
Building Together, Learning from Each Other
Throughout the gathering, participants explored bamboo construction techniques, community-based and participatory design, and biomimicry, connecting technical knowledge with creativity and locally grounded approaches to sustainability.
At the heart of the experience was a collaborative construction project developed alongside women from Punta Brava. This hands-on initiative created opportunities for cultural exchange, collective learning, and meaningful engagement with the host community.
More than a technical workshop, the gathering demonstrated how architecture can become a platform for connection, bringing together different perspectives and experiences around a shared purpose.
Strengthening Women's Leadership Through Bamboo
Mujer y Bambú highlights the importance of creating spaces where women can share their expertise, develop new skills, and strengthen their participation in sustainable architecture, construction, and community development.
By connecting women across countries, cultures, and disciplines, the initiative continues to nurture a growing international network that encourages collaboration beyond the gathering itself.
For the World Bamboo Organization (WBO), initiatives such as Mujer y Bambú reflect the importance of inclusive participation, knowledge exchange, and community engagement in advancing bamboo's contribution to a more sustainable future.
The experience in Punta Brava is a reminder that meaningful transformation begins with people: with the willingness to share knowledge, learn from one another, and work together toward common goals.
Mujer y Bambú is more than architecture. It is about community, shared knowledge, and the collective power of women to shape a more sustainable future.
