The city of Lahijan, known as the Bamboo Capital of Iran, came alive this September as leaders, experts, artists, and community members gathered to celebrate the 7th Annual World Bamboo Day. The event, organized by Aria Exir Faravar Salamat Company and Sabzandishane Shomal Company, marked another milestone in Iran’s growing commitment to bamboo research, innovation, and sustainable development.
The celebration, held in the city’s main conference hall, brought together provincial and local authorities, distinguished scientists, cultural figures, and bamboo activists from across the country. Among the keynote speakers were the Governor of Lahijan, the Director General of Cultural Heritage of Gilan Province, and Dr. Ebrahim Azarpour, a pioneer in the bamboo sector and representative of Aria Exir Faravar Salamat Company. Their addresses emphasized the critical role of bamboo in industry, agriculture, environmental restoration, and socio-economic transformation.
A Cultural Celebration of Nature and Sustainability
The event’s vibrant program reflected bamboo’s deep-rooted cultural and artistic significance. Attendees were treated to performances of Karni music, played on bamboo instruments, and live weaving demonstrations by local artisans, showcasing how this versatile plant continues to inspire creativity and craftsmanship in Iran’s cultural heritage.
A special highlight was the presentation of a message and video address from the World Bamboo Organization (WBO). The message, delivered by WBO Executive Director Susanne Lucas, inspired participants and strengthened the collective commitment to advancing bamboo’s role in building a more sustainable future. “Your leadership and encouragement greatly elevated the ceremony,” said organizers, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in expanding the bamboo movement.
Spotlight on Innovation and Industry
In his keynote remarks, Dr. Ebrahim Azarpour highlighted the latest achievements of Aria Exir Faravar Salamat Company in advancing bamboo-based technologies, product development, and cultivation strategies. He underscored the plant’s potential to revolutionize multiple sectors, from sustainable construction and eco-friendly materials to climate-smart agriculture and circular economy solutions.
Through these efforts, Iran is emerging as a significant actor in the global bamboo landscape, promoting the integration of bamboo into cultural, artistic, economic, and social spheres.
A Call for Continued Global Collaboration
As the event concluded, participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bamboo as a tool for sustainability, innovation, and community development. The celebration also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of international partnerships, such as those fostered by the World Bamboo Organization, in amplifying bamboo’s impact worldwide.
World Bamboo Day, celebrated every 18th of September, continues to unite nations and communities under a shared vision: a future where bamboo’s potential is fully realized as a solution for people and the planet.
