BASE Bahay Foundation, Inc. invites professional builders, bamboo enthusiasts, academics, and research institutions across the globe to attend the 4th annual Bamboost Forum, a groundbreaking event with the theme “Breaking Barriers: Bamboo in Building Sustainable and Resilient Structures.”
Taking place on June 6 at Verdure, 4F Henry Sy Sr. Hall, De La Salle University, Manila, Bamboost IV will delve into the latest advancements in bamboo construction, showcasing its potential to revolutionize the building industry and address the nation’s housing needs while mitigating the effects of climate challenges.
This year’s forum is particularly significant as BASE Bahay Foundation collaborates with the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP). BASE and ASEP is actively working together to develop the national bamboo structural design guideline and advocate for its inclusion in the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). This collaborative effort marks a crucial step towards mainstreaming bamboo as a recognized and reliable construction material.
Topics will include Philippine Structural Bamboo Guidelines, the bamboo value chain, bamboo connections, engineered mass bamboo (design and construction of tall and large-span structures), and design as a key tool for innovation of Bamboo architecture and construction.
The distinguished lineup of speakers includes Ambassador Nicolas Brühl (Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines), Dr. Lessandro Garciano (ASEP, De La Salle University), Prof. Yan Xiao (Zhejiang University), Dominika Malkowska (University of Bristol), Mauricio Cardenas Laverde (Studio Cardenas and Shenzhen University), Liza Duropan-Lopez (Mahintana Foundation, Inc.), and Dr. Nischal Pradhan and Base Bahay Foundation.
The Bamboost learning series is part of the Bamboo Academy Program, which offers training for professional builders such as architects and civil engineers to give them a head start in anticipation of the mainstreaming of bamboo in building codes.
An initiative of Liechtenstein-based Hilti Foundation, BASE continues to provide alternative building technologies to enable a network of partners to build quality socialized homes that are comfortable, affordable, disaster-resilient, ecologically friendly, and with social impact. To date, Base has built more than 2,000 homes using its proprietary Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology, sheltering over 10,000 individuals globally.
