Bamboo Architecture, Community Design and Regenerative Development
Elisa de la Roca is an eco-social architect, bamboo designer, and builder from Guatemala with more than a decade of experience in sustainable architecture, participatory design, and bamboo construction.
She is the Founder and Lead Architect of BAMBüTZ, where she develops regenerative spaces through collaborative and community-centered design processes, integrating local materials, traditional knowledge, and deep engagement with people and place.
Elisa is also Co-Founder and President of Give Back to the Source, an NGO that works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen bamboo skills, agroforestry practices, and locally driven development. Her work places particular emphasis on community empowerment, knowledge exchange, and the role of women in creating resilient and regenerative territories.
Previously, she served as Director of Design and Construction and partner at CASSA, where she gained extensive experience in sustainable building and bamboo-based architecture.
Through her practice, Elisa sees architecture as a tool for care, community building, and reconnection with the land, advancing bamboo as both a construction material and a catalyst for social and environmental regeneration.
