Communications and Local Development
Guillermo Mortera has been the Director of Communications for the World Bamboo Organization since 2018, where he leads the global promotion of bamboo as a sustainable resource. He is also a member of the Board of the NED Jaquith Foundation in Oregon, USA. As Co-Founder of Bamboo Architecture Company since 2019, Guillermo has contributed to sustainable construction projects across Mexico, Peru, and India, with notable clients such as the Four Seasons Group, Conrad by Hilton, and Grupo Hilton. He is also Co-Founder of the Oro Verde Bambú Cooperative, established in 2016, which promotes an organizational model based on alternative education focusing on nature, solidarity economy, social security, and human rights.
In addition to his architectural work, Guillermo has served as an external consultant for the Wyss Academy for Nature and the social enterprise Casa Amazonas, working on reforestation and conservation projects in the Peruvian Amazon. He is also the Co-Founder of the Children Bamboo Rainforest project in Tambopata, Madre de Dios, Peru, which leverages bamboo as a sustainable resource for rainforest conservation, engaging children, teenagers, and indigenous communities.
Guillermo has been part of the international organizing committees for World Bamboo Congresses in Mexico and Taiwan, as well as World Bamboo Workshops in Mexico, Peru, India, Vietnam, and Guatemala.
Academically, Guillermo earned his degree in Architecture from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in 2013. He completed a diploma in Eco-efficient Supply Chains for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises from the EGADE Business School of Tecnológico de Monterrey in 2016. Recently, he completed a Master’s degree in Economic Development and International Cooperation from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, supported by a scholarship from the National Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies of Mexico..
