Director of Commerce and Industries, Manipur, Dhiraj Yumnam disclosed that the NE region accounts for 60 per cent of the total bamboo products in the entire country and Manipur alone produces 25 per cent of it. The Central government has launched the National Mission of Bamboo and a bamboo industry could be established in the region and Manipur, he said.

For four generations, his family has breathed music into one of the world’s most pliable plants — the bamboo. Now, Superintendent Gilbert Ramos has decided to teach his craft to policemen who form the Philippine National Police Band. Last September, for the first time in history, the PNP Band played instruments crafted out of bamboo and created music that is distinctively Filipino. There they were, clutching in their hands, not guns that snuff out lives, but trombones and flutes that soothe lives.
